George Kenon Lee, Jr.

George Kenon Lee, Jr., born to George Sr. and Thelma Lee, July 15, 1949, in Torrance, CA., was the first Black Student Body President at Gardena High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Claremont McKenna College, and a Master’s Degree from Chapman University. Mr. Lee served as Director of Special Projects, and Special Assistant to the CEO, at the Provisional Accelerated Learning (PAL) Center in San Bernardino.

In his ten years at the PAL Center, George, as he was lovingly called by many friends, salvaged many lives by virtually making youth stay in school, get jobs, and work as apprentices with various trade unions.

He recruited approximately 40 vendors at the PAL Center’s Job Fair every year.

A devoted PAL Center employee, George absolutely loved young people, and could be heard, as well as seen, encouraging and cheering students on, and enlisting mentors. Every young male was his “son”.

The rehabilitation of Building “H” on the PAL campus by various trade unions, and the County of San Bernardino, was his passion.

Mr. Lee was well respected and received numerous certificates and recognitions from Mayors of various cities, County Supervisors, State Members of the Assembly, State Senators, Federal agencies, and various other entities.

George Kenon Lee, Jr. will forever live because of his sincere and unselfish mission to help others. He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, one son, two daughters, and a host of relatives and friends.
